Plastic mulch is a technique applied in protected agriculture, in which polyethylene film is used in the crops over the grooves or “beds” in which the plant’s natural environment is modified with the goal of obtaining an optimal crop growth.
Types of plastic mulch
The mulch colour determines the behavior and influence of radiant energy over the plant, which is why the choice of plastic is relative to the crop, time of the year and geographic scenario.
•Black/black: Absorbs more radiation from light, augmenting the floor’s temperature considerably. It helps control undergrowth.
•Silver/black: Avoids plagues and disease by reflecting light, reduces the warmth of the floor. It helps control undergrowth.
•White/black: Reflects incident solar rays warming the floor in a lesser proportion. Increases photosynthesis due to the extra light coming to the underside of the leaves. It helps control undergrowth
